Your Path to Safety, Support & Healing
If you’ve experienced a crime — whether domestic or family violence, human trafficking, sexual assault, gun violence, elder abuse, or another form of harm — we want you to know: you are not alone. AVA is here with you, every step of the way.
The AVA Empower app is a safe, discreet, and comprehensive tool built to connect survivors directly with the services, resources, and compassionate advocacy you deserve. It’s more than a phone number—it’s a digital ally.
What AVA Offers
Below are the key service areas the app brings into your reach:
1. Crisis Intervention
• Immediate connection with AVA’s trained advocates when you’re facing urgent risk or trauma.
• On-scene support, telephone outreach, or guided next-steps for acute situations.
• Guidance on your options — even if you’re unsure what to do next. AVA has a long history of 24-hour helpline and crisis services. In moments of crisis, having someone who knows and understands can make a critical difference. The app gives you direct access.
2. Court Advocacy
• Help navigating the justice system: obtaining protective orders, working with law enforcement, understanding your rights.
• AVA’s advocates walk with you through hearings, prepare you for what to expect, and provide emotional support. The legal side of things can feel overwhelming, especially when healing and safety are already in question. Court advocacy ensures you’re not navigating alone.
3. Safety Planning
• Personalized safety-planning tools available via the app: checklists, escape plans, emergency contacts, resource maps.
• Collaboration with an AVA advocate to build a plan that fits your situation — home, work, children, finances. Safety is both immediate (what to do right now) and long-term (how to rebuild and protect your future). A plan offers control when things feel out of control.
4. Trauma & Grief Support
• Access to trauma-informed counseling referrals, peer support groups, and grief care for loss resulting from homicide or violent crime.
• Educational content on trauma responses, healing paths, and what to expect as you move forward. Healing is more than physical safety—it’s emotional and psychological recovery. Recognizing the impact of trauma helps survivors reclaim their voice and strength.
5. Relocation & Resource Support
• Assistance locating safe housing, transitional living, emergency financial help, relocation options when staying in place isn’t safe.
• Referrals to partner organizations and community agencies for job support, childcare, and ongoing stability. For many survivors, leaving is the hardest part. Having real options and resources — not just hope — can change everything.
Why AVA Matters
The journey after a crime is full of choices. The AVA Empower app presents the services, supports, and possibilities in a clear way—so you can decide what step to take next. Whether it’s “I need to call someone right now” or “I want to understand my rights and options,” you’re empowered.
Demonstrates AVA’s Value Beyond Emergencies
While emergencies need immediate attention, healing and thriving happen across time. AVA’s services aren’t just for the moment of crisis—they’re for the road ahead. The app shows survivors that AVA is a long-term partner for justice, recovery, and transformation.
Builds Trust Between AVA & the Community
Trust is earned—especially when someone has been harmed and might fear being re-traumatized. AVA’s decades of presence in Atlanta (serving more than 150,000 victims since 1984) show you aren’t a number—you’re a person worthy of dignity, respect, and care.
This app is another extension of that commitment: reliable, available, trauma-informed.
Your Voice. Your Choice. Your Healing.
Your experience matters. You have strengths. More importantly: you have rights, and you are deserving of support, respect, and a path to a future free from fear. The AVA Empower app is here to reflect that truth—and to walk with you as you move from surviving to thriving.
